Obsidian Grandmothers Mandala
The Obsidian Grandmothers Mandala explores deep ancestral memory and material texture through the visual metaphor of volcanic glass. Anchoring the composition on a flint-knapped obsidian slab, the design works between razor-sharp fractured edges, smoky translucent fractures, and a polished black-brown mirrored ground.
At the center sits a stylized stained glass magnolia medallion, encircled by alternating beads of amber and jet. Drawn from the ritual regalia of British Traditional Wicca, this collar marks the threshold of life, death, and energetic continuity.
Above this horizon, lambent petroglyphs of feminine figures trail ribbons of polychromatic light and blood into the cosmic dark, invoking the maternal lineage of mitochondrial DNA. Bounded by an outer rim reminiscent of folkloric textile embroidery, the mandala functions as a grounding focal instrument, connecting the biological code of our ancestors to the vast architecture of the cosmos.
