The Lunar Rites Mandala

Lunar Rites Mandala is the inaugural piece in a year-long art exploration of the mandala series of 2024. The series was conceived as a part of an experiment in dedicated focus and iterative works with mandala form chosen as a random constraint, to see whether the occult principles of constraining energy would manifest results.

Drawing inspiration from the tranquil oases of nature found in nearby Fort Tryon Park amid Manhattan’s perpetual energy, this mandala roots itself in neopagan celebration of the interlocking cycles of time in nature, and the veneration of the moon. It is the observation of Luna’s monthly cycle which shape the mark of years in ways which inspired humanity to begin mastering agriculture which led to the rise of civilization.

Like a sacred window into universal alignment, “Lunar Rites” offers a visual meditation on finding one’s center amidst life’s constant motion — a reminder to look up at the night sky and rediscover our place in the cosmic dance.
